SUGGESTED ALASKA ITINERARIES: Anchorage to Anchorage

ANCHORAGE TO ANCHORAGE
This itinerary does not require purchase of a travelpass. It is excellent for flights in and out of Anchorage or before or after a cruise to the Seward/Whittier area.

Day 1
Arrive in Anchorage today. Overnight in Anchorage.

Day 2           Driving distance: 135 miles
Take your rental car today south on the Seward Highway. Visit Potters Marsh bird sanctuary then the town of Girdwood before continuing on to Whittier via the tunnel. Take the 26 Glacier cruise this afternoon, then return to the Seward Highway and drive south to Seward. Overnight in Seward.

Day 3
The day is free in Seward. Recommended is a visit to the Sealife Center or the optional trip to Kenai Fjords National Park. Overnight in Seward.

Day 4           Driving distance 220 miles
Drive from Seward north to the Matanuska Valley today. The side trip to Independence Mine is recommended. Overnight in the Matanuska Valley.

Day 5
Arrive in the Copper River Valley today . Visit the Wrangell St. Elias National Park. Weather permitting views of the Wrangell Mountains are spectacular. Recommended is the afternoon ATV ride, or river rafting on the Klutina River. Overnight Copper Center.

Day 6           Driving distance: 260 miles
Drive from Copper Center to Fairbanks along the historic Richardson Highway today. Your route will follow the trans-Alaska Pipeline. Overnight in Fairbanks .

Day 7
The day is free in Fairbanks. Recommended is a visit to the historic mining district of Fox and the optional trip on the Riverboat Discovery. Overnight in Fairbanks.

Day 8           Fairbanks to Denali : 122 miles
Return your car to the Fairbanks airport. Take the free shuttle to the Alaska Railroad depot and board Alaska Railroad south to Denali Park. Overnight in Denali Park.
Depart: 8:15 am           Arrive 12:00 noon

Day 9
The day is free in Denali Park for the optional shuttle trip into park. Return to your lodgings at the park entrance this afternoon. Overnight Denali Park.

Day 10           Denali to Anchorage : 242 miles
The morning is free in Denali Park. Board the Alaska Railroad southbound for Anchorage today. Weather permitting, views of Mt. McKinley are spectacular along the Susitna River Valley.   Depart 12:00 noon           Arrive 8:15 pm
